By Murtagh9050 • Updated September 2026

This guide is for players who know how a hunt works and want to extract more consistently. It covers the decisions that matter most: how you spend elixir, where you scan, when you leave, how streak works, and which weapon fits your style.

What Actually Wins in Planet-X

Planet-X looks like a combat game, but hunts are won by decisions. You scan for crates, secure a prize, and extract. Fighting exists, but it's a tool, not the goal.

You are not trying to maximize eliminations, clear the map, or win every encounter. You are trying to:

  • Find crates efficiently

  • Secure prizes with as little exposure as possible

  • Extract consistently

  • Build hunt streak over time, which unlocks better prize potential

Every hunt follows the same loop:

  1. Deploy on the map

  2. Scan for crates

  3. Manage elixir while navigating risk

  4. Discover a prize

  5. Extract

  6. Repeat

Most of your results are decided in steps 2 to 4: how efficiently you scan, how you spend elixir, and whether you fight when you don't have to.

Mastering Elixir

Elixir powers scanning, shooting, your shield, and your hoverboard. When it runs low, your options disappear and you start reacting instead of choosing.

How to restore it

  • Elixir vials. You start every hunt with five. Each is one-time use, takes a couple of seconds to activate, and restores you to 100/100. Use one when you must finish a fight, when you're extracting valuable loot and can't risk running dry, or when you're trapped and need to escape.

  • Refill stations. Each map has several (usually 2 to 3). You stand still on one for a few seconds and can't use your weapons while refilling. Use them in quiet spots, with cover, after enemies are cleared, and between scanning cycles.

The reserve rule: Make sure you always have left over elixir in the tank, just in case you need a speedy getaway or need to finish off a fight.

Scanning Efficiency

Most players scan randomly and hope for luck. The players who consistently extract with value scan where the odds make sense.

Before committing to an area, they check four things:

- How contested is this zone? A quiet corner beats a hot zone you die in.

- Where are players rotating? Every map has natural paths. Know where people flow, and you know which crates get picked before you arrive.

- Where do crates actually spawn? Some spots hit more than others. Knowing the difference saves wasted scans.

- How fast can I get out? The best find is worthless if you die carrying it. Scan near your exits, and always know your way out before you commit.

Good crate hunting is four habits:

  • Scan the high-odds spots first

  • Stay out of open ground you don't need to cross

  • Keep an escape route in mind the whole time

  • Use Solar Storms and Mothership Beams when they help, not just because they're up

The goal isn't to scan the most. It's to scan the smartest.

Extracting Safely

Finding a prize is only half the job. If you don't extract, it isn't yours. Extraction mistakes usually happen right after you find something, when relief makes you careless. See What Happens If You Don't Extract and the full Extraction guide.

Before you head to extraction, check:

  • Where is the nearest low-risk extraction rocket?

  • What is my elixir level?

  • Is combat necessary or avoidable?

  • Am I being tracked?

Before any fight, ask:

  • Does this fight protect my prize?

  • Is this opponent blocking my extraction path?

  • Is my elixir stable enough to commit?

  • Can this be resolved quickly?

If a fight doesn't improve your position, it's optional, and optional fights are usually mistakes. The Engagement Optimizer helps you decide when to fight and when to run. For the reasoning, read Should You Avoid Fights in Planet-X?

Never assume you're safe just because you're near extraction. Assume pressure until you're fully out.

How Hunt Streak Works

Hunt streak does not help you win fights. It increases your long-term prize potential. Our Hunt Streak Calculator can help you visualize how you can progress your streak.

Think of it less as a combat mechanic and more as a progression system. Streak functions like a multiplier over time — a tier unlock that rewards consistency, not aggression.

Higher streak doesn’t make you stronger in a single hunt. It gives you access to better prize tiers across many hunts. That distinction matters.

Serious players track their streak deliberately. They understand how frequency and spacing interact. They protect it the same way they protect elixir — carefully and intentionally. Streak does not replace skill. It amplifies disciplined play.

Choosing the Right Weapon

Weapons in Planet-X change tempo, spacing, and the fights you're likely to take. This is our current ranking, from the full Weapon Tier List:

A lower tier doesn't mean a bad weapon. It means more specialized.

Match your weapon to your habits: your elixir discipline, how often you want to fight, and whether you prefer short or extended fights. Since VOLT drains enemy elixir, it works well with the elixir habits above.

Optimizing your Mobile Setup

Planet-X is mobile-first. Missed shots cost elixir, over-correcting wastes time, and inconsistent sensitivity increases your exposure.

  • Lock in your settings. Set your sensitivity once with the Sensitivity Analyzer. Refinement beats constant experimentation.

  • Use minimal, good accessories. A gaming grip controller or clip-on triggers can reduce fatigue, and a mobile gaming headset improves directional awareness.

  • Manage your device. Keep it cool and avoid modes that throttle performance. Clear audio helps you hear movement and hoverboards earlier.

More options are in Gear for Planet-X.

Staying Consistent

After a strong extraction, players take on too much risk. After a loss, they rush and burn elixir. Neither helps.

Strong players keep the same rules every hunt: the same elixir floor, the same fight filter, the same extraction patience. Wins don't inflate them and losses don't rattle them.

Before a hunt

  1. Am I playing for a safe extraction or a high-risk push?

  2. What elixir level won't I drop below?

  3. When will I disengage automatically?

After a hunt

  • Where did my elixir go?

  • Which fights weren't necessary?

  • What will I change next time?

The Pre-Hunt Checklist and 10 Tiny Adjustments cover the small habits that add up.

Where to Go Next

Frequently Asked Questions

- Is combat necessary to win?

Only when it protects your prize or blocks your extraction.

- How much elixir do the hoverboard and shield use?

About 2.5 per second for the hoverboard and about 1.2 per second for the shield. Scanning drains gradually, and every shot costs elixir.

- When should I use an elixir vial?

When you must finish a fight and can't afford to run out, when you're extracting valuable loot, or when you're trapped. You start each hunt with five, and each one restores you to full. Save them for crises, not convenience.

- How do I stop my hunt streak from decaying?

Hunt at least once in every window your subscription tier gives you. Each window you skip entirely costs 1 streak, no matter how many hunts you played in the others.

- Does a higher streak guarantee better prizes?

No guarantee, but it increases your access to higher prize tiers.

- Are your streak numbers official?

No. They're based on observed mechanics and community testing, and we update them when the rules change. The Hunt Streak Calculator uses the same numbers.

- What's the best weapon in Planet-X?

Assault Rifle is the safest default, and Sniper is the other S tier pick if you're comfortable with positioning. See the Weapon Tier List.

- Should I scan early?

Scan when the odds are favorable and your elixir is healthy.

- Is Planet-X pay to win?

No. Spending within Planet-X does not give you a competitive advantage. Details are in our Pay to Win article.

- Where should I start if I'm new?

Read the Beginner's Guide first, then the Elixir guide.

The Bottom Line

Planet-X feels chaotic if you react to it. It becomes structured when you make decisions ahead of time: protect your elixir, filter your fights, extract patiently, and space your hunts to grow your streak. Players who do that aren't lucky, they're consistent.
